Description
Surgical hair transplants removing hair from one area of the head. This hair is then divided into graft of 1-3 hairs and inserted into the areas where more hair is desired. This surgical process is completed in four steps.
Step 1
A thin piece of tissue is removed from the back of the head. This strip is approximately 1cm wide and 10-20cm long and is referred to as the "donor strip." The hair transplants are created from this strip. After the strip is removed, the area is sutured closed.
Step 2
The donor strip is separated into tiny grafts composed of 1-3 hair follicles. Creating these hair transplants takes 1-3 hours and is a very important part of a successful transplant procedure.
Step 3
Recipient sites are created in the area in need of hair transplants. These recipient sites are tiny openings in the scalp. The number and spacing of the recipient sites are based on each individual's particular hair loss pattern.
Step 4
Each graft is carefully placed at the correct depth and angle into the recipient sites. This process can take several hours with great attention to making the grafts look natural. After all of the hair transplants have been placed into their recipient sites, the procedure is complete.
Step 5
The graft recipient sites are small and therefore, heal in a few days. Virtually all transplanted hair follicles survive and grow hair. Some clients notice growth in as little as 4 months. Optimum growth of newly transplanted hair is witnessed in 7-8 months.
